Peter Gallagher is joining the cast of Law & Order: SVU, E! News has confirmed. This is not a drill! Sandy Cohen and Olivia Benson, together for the first time!

OK, he’s not playing Sandy Cohen, but he’ll always be The O.C. patriarch to us. Gallagher is playing Deputy Chief William Dodds, described as the “charismatic” (duh, it’s Peter Gallagher) and “tough-as-nails” boss of all special vicitims units in New York City. He’s Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) boss and demands respect and hard work from the commanding officers that report to him.

“I’ve wanted to write for and work with Peter Gallagher since…forever. He’s an actor’s actor—deft with text and subtext; emotion and intellect,” executive producer Warren Leight said in a statement. “Like everyone else in our cast, he’s also a great singer. We’re all thrilled that this long into the show’s run, actors of his quality want to do an arc on SVU.”

And now with that great singer remark we’re dreaming of an SVU musical episode. Think about it. Gallagher currently stars in USA Network’s Covert Affairs. His casting was first reported by TVLine.

A change happening behind the scenes of SVU: Hargitay is now a producer on the show after 16 years of playing Olivia Benson.

Law & Order: SVU season 16 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. on NBC.

In the season 16 premiere, Sergeant Benson (Hargitay) juggles work and her new role as foster mother to baby Noah Porter. Amaro (Pino), now working the traffic beat in Queens, arrests an underage prostitute with connections to Noah’s mother Ellie, who was “greenlit” by her pimp and brutally murdered. Amaro’s undercover work sets off a chain of events that puts everyone connected to the case – even baby Noah – in danger. Meanwhile, a new detective assigned to Manhattan SVU (guest star Peter Scanavino) starts off on the wrong foot. Also guest starring Lobo Sebastian (Joaquin Menendez), Manny Perez (Angel Perez), Alexa Mansour (Luna Garcia), Laura Gomez (Selena Cruz), Lenny Venito (John Gatto), Gavin-Keith Umeh (Little Tino) and Bronwyn Reed (Lucy).

Mariska is scheduled to be on Inside the Actors Studio on September 22nd at 8pm on Bravo. You can watch a preview clip here.

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Joyful Heart Foundation she founded, actress Mariska Hargitay was in Honolulu for a benefit, as well as a picnic dinner event honoring foundation benefactors.

Hargitay, who portrays New York City detective Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” was inspired to start the foundation while vacationing in Kailua-Kona. She had always been moved by viewers response to the compassionate character she plays on television, which isn’t far from her own heart. The aim of Joyful Heart is to help heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

She is such a genuine person. Usually, I find the people behind such organizations to be glib and business-like because of the nature of fundraising, but she is such a believer in her cause and full of gratitude that people are willing to come together to help, that this is the second time I’ve seen her tear up talking about it.

I was able to attend a resort chic picnic event at a private home in Nuuanu, catered by Town restaurant. In honor of event underwriter Tori Richard, Ltd., guests were invited to show their support by donning Tori Richard attire, vintage or new.

You can read the rest of the article here which talks about the fashion of the evening.

Mariska, Debra Messing & Sophia Bush are hosting a #WomenCrushWednesdays SVU marathon on USA on September 7th. I uploaded the commercial below. It was recorded on my phone so the quality is not that great 🙂

I just uploaded 8 promotional stills from Girls Disappeared. We only have 3 weeks left who else is excited?!

ODE TO JOY: Neiman Marcus teamed up with the Joyful Heart Foundation, founded by actress and advocate Mariska Hargitay of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” for its 10th anniversary celebration. Neiman’s presented The NO MORE Lounge at Joyful Heart’s bi-annual Joyful Mele gala Sunday night in Hawaii, where Hargitay started the foundation. Neiman’s also sponsord Joyful Mele.

The event raised more than $500,000, all of which will be reinvested to support Joyful Heart’s work in Hawaii.

When Hargitay started playing Detective Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” 16 years ago, the content of the scripts and the statistics around violence and abuse opened her eyes to the epidemic of sexual assualt, domestic violence and child abuse. She founded Joyful Heart in 2004, with the intention of helping sexual assault survivors heal and reclaim a sense of joy in their lives.

Following the program, Hargitay and the Joyful Heart Foundation’s guests continued the celebration with deserts and dancing at Neiman’s sponsored NO MORE Lounge, featuring DJ Samantha Ronson, also at the Kahala Hotel & Resort. The NO MORE symbol and color were incorporated into the serving platters, fixtures, floor coverings, lighting and flowers. In addition, the NO MORE print campaign was on display, which featured more than 50 celebrities and public figures urging people to end the silence and excuses around domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition to Hargitay, those featured in the campaign include Amy Poehler, Andrew Rannells, Bill McComb, Katie Couric, Courtney Cox, and Debra Messing.

Question: Do you have anything on Chicago Fire? I just watched Seasons 1 and 2 and am dying for it to start back up again! Any scoop? —Devin
How about a little Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. scoop with a side of Law & Order: SVU intel? The Windy City-based sister shows will host a major crossover in the first half of the season, and then again in the second half. “We want to be as ambitious as we were last time,” says executive producer Matt Olmstead. “Last year, we also did a crossover with SVU that we liked a lot. We’re exploring a possible crossover with them as well. [We] definitely want to do at least one, perhaps two big crossovers, involving any combination of the three shows.”
